Bring on 2015, I said… then promptly disappeared for a week (and some)! 2015 got busy all of a sudden – I guess I should be used to it, right?! I was on the verge of typing that I was looking forward to clearing the decks and finishing off the things I wanted to… and then realised how often I’ve written/said/thought that to myself. Hmm… maybe I should make myself a new years resolution?!

I’m sitting here with a stupid smile on my face for the most ridiculous of reasons… partly because this is the last of my 2014 photos, but more so because it brings that collection to exactly 700. And we all know that someone who likes straight lines and symmetry would probably be prone to liking significant numbers as well! All I need now is for this to be post #100 instead (or #105, at least!)… but I can’t have everything. This ‘finale’ is nowhere near as monumental as this time (minus 7 days!) last year – but it’s still a good time to look back and reflect on the places I’ve found, the things I’ve done, what I’ve learnt… and most importantly, how I’ve grown. I almost feel like my eyes have been widened more this time around – like 2013 was the hard slog of pushing every day, whereas 2014 was more about taking a step back and seeing what amazing things I could find without looking so hard for them. I had so many questions this time last year – and was very confused as to what I was doing and why it was I was doing it. Now? I still don’t really know, but that’s ok (it’s only taken me the best part of twelve months to come to terms with it). What I do know is that finding and photographing colourful walls (yes, I’ve come to terms with that, too!) makes me happy, and that having such a creative balance in my life is so so important.

Bring on a colourful, contrasty 2015!

If you happened to be looking for an example of just how much shadows change position depending on the time of year, this would be a pretty good one. Yes, the shopping centre has had a coat of paint, I’m standing in a slightly different position and there’s around half an hour time difference… but how incredible is the change? I had the best of intentions to try and take a photo on the shortest and the longest day of the year to compare them (does that even make sense? it did in my head, but that’s not necessarily saying a lot!) – and I also had the best of intentions of taking this at exactly the same time… the problem is that 8:19am at this spot now means I would be running late for work, so surely don’t plan on stopping to take a photo!

Still backtracking to catch up with the photos already sitting on my computer… and I haven’t taken a photo with this camera for the best part of a week and a half. Weirdly, I’ve been discovering a few new colourful places lately… ones I haven’t seen before, and I’m sure they’re not new. I’m a bit perplexed how I haven’t found them earlier!

I should be writing a post about 2014 and all that stuff… except for the fact that I’ve still got photos from last year (how weird does that sound?!) to post. We’ve been away so they have been sitting on my hard drive waiting patiently for me to get back. I haven’t taken a single photo for this project since these ones – I’m starting to get that itch again. This lot brought with them a first – someone must have thought I was highly suspicious and stopped to take a photo of our car/number plate after I’d been taking a photo of something. Terrorist alert! At least it was my husband’s car, so any interrogation can be sent in his direction… he’ll handle it better than me!
