Today is dreary and wet and chilly – and whilst I definitely don’t mind the change in weather, it’s so nice to look back at these and think about the glorious warm sun! Colour, colour, colour – my favourite. I’m amazed at how quickly the scenery can change, and it’s pretty awesome (to me – I doubt anyone else!) seeing old buildings re-painted with new branding and new businesses. Makes me wonder just how many places on my map that I think I’ve exhausted that I should start to re-visit…!

Without a doubt, my favourite areas to take photographs are industrial precincts – there’s something about the large blocks of colour and absence of people that I really rather enjoy! The downside of this is that, during the week at least – they open early, and therefore are limited to weekend photographing expeditions… the upside then being that they are rarely open on a Sunday. I’ve exhausted just about every industrial area near my place for cool locations – and it’s sad just how well I know them all! A change in lighting and time of day can make the world of difference, though… I was out early this week and found some places in the morning light before they opened – yay for super bright colours and glorious shadows. This little collection is from all over the place in the last few days: Northgate, Geebung, Virginia and throw in a couple of random Milton and Albion ones for good measure!

I’m starting to run into a problem (a good one!)… I’ve got a fair few images to post, and they’re going to start ganging up on me if I’m not careful! Do you know what the best thing is about being on holidays at the moment? When I’m out, there’s no real deadlines of places I need to be or things I need to do – and if I see something I want to photograph, there’s absolutely no issue with me going round a few blocks to go back… which I’ve definitely done. I use a tracking app on my phone and then tag my images so that I have some idea where on earth I took them… when you’ve spent a few days walking and driving in circles it certainly comes in handy! You should see the ‘path’ I take – all over the place, and completely illogical with no real sense of purpose… which just happens to have a pretty strong contrast to my images, I think!

Hey, check that out! My ‘newbies’ are in double digits! Anticipating a steep incline in the next couple of weeks while I’m not at work… having a computer back helps, too. I’ve got a whole list (seriously. I sorted it into suburbs last night) of places I want to photograph in that time period, so it’s all systems go. And I couldn’t be happier! Today I walked for kilometres and found plenty of fabulous places, so I’ll break them into batches, I think. The most memorable moment was a group of young gentlemen (cough) laughing loudly at me for taking a photo of that orange bin – hah. They didn’t (and probably won’t ever) see what I did, and I’m cool with that. My skin is definitely thicker than it used to be! I’m a nut. For sure. But I’m a happy one, so I don’t care!

This is fast becoming my Sunday afternoon ritual – and to be honest, I don’t mind in the slightest! Photo walks are a lovely way to end the week, and I find something rather satisfying about going through the images I’ve taken. These ones are a bit of a mixed bunch – a few left over from recent days, and a few from today. You know what? It’s so nice to not have to worry about making sure they’re in order and making notes of places that would be useful in emergencies and planning my day around my photo! Walking and taking photos has always been something I’ve enjoyed… but now there’s just a little bit more ‘fun’, a little more spontaneity, a little more thinking outside the square (I’m getting there…) and a bit less pressure! I can certainly live with that.
