This was a day that was all about stripes (I was going to say lines, but hey… isn’t just about everything I photograph all about the lines?!) – sure, I had a couple in mind, but didn’t realise quite how many of them there were! The first photo has been on my list for ages, as it’s a ‘weekend only’ kind of place – as it was, I had to cuddle up pretty close to that fence to fit in what I wanted to, and avoid eye contact with the drivers in their cars all of a metre or so from where I was perched. I have no idea what on earth possessed the painter to paint it like this, but I’m pretty sure it wasn’t always so wonky and misaligned. Last photo is a bit out of the ordinary for me, but it made me giggle!

All bar one of these images are from buildings that have looked the way they do for as long as I’ve lived in Brisbane… and that’s eight years! To be honest, the odd one out could have looked that way, too – but I haven’t seen it before. I’ve only photographed one of these spots previously, and it was a lousy attempt, if I remember correctly! In hindsight, I’m pretty sure I missed so many things last year because I was looking for them just a little bit too hard. And now – I’ve taken a step back, wandered around… and in this case, drove around the block three times. I’m walking more… actually looking to see what’s there, and not just pulling up when something big and bold catches my eye. Driving and trying to find places to photograph gives me a sore head – and I’m surprised I haven’t had an accident!

My new job means that I drive through the industrial areas that I feel like I’ve photographed a million times before. 15 minutes from my house – and therefore the go-to area in days of desperation (and/or not much time!) trying to find a photo for my 365 project. It’s amazing how much has changed in such a short period of time, and also how many new things I see with fresh eyes. Some buildings have always looked the way they do, but I’ve never paid attention. Others have been repainted/rebranded. Some aren’t there any more. And some look amazing when I see them at different times of day! My camera is always in my bag, and I made a decision a couple of weeks ago that if something was worth photographing, it was worth using my camera to do so… you know, the one I paid lots of money for, not my phone! I have lots more images to go through as a result, and I’m loving it.

Usually I have ‘blue’ days. Not the ones you’re probably thinking of – these days I’m perfectly happy, but I just find lots of blue things to photograph! Instead, I’m having red/orange/yellow (warm?!) days – and they’re so much more interesting! I’ve mentioned before that I used to think orange was hard to find – maybe it’s a new trend, or maybe I was going to the wrong places previously? Either way, I don’t mind – they’re bright and happy, and certainly nice to look at on a cool evening with a cup of tea…

For some reason today I’ve got lots of common themes with my photos – similar images (sort of!), taken at completely different times of day in completely different areas of the city. So – for something out of the ordinary, I’m posting them in pairs!
