While I’ve been all over Brisbane and through plenty of industrial areas taking photographs, I’m still a little terrified of someone asking me what I’m doing. Not many people ‘get’ why I like the things I do (I don’t get it myself, so that is understandable!) – so I’ve got lots of visions of someone thinking I’m scoping a place out. Or worse, I’m a terrorist. I was explaining the concept of urbex to my husband the other day, and he asked if I would ever like to do something like that – my immediate reaction was a very emphatic no (I won’t repeat what I really said) – purely because I’m a scaredy cat. Take, for example: the black photo below is in an industrial car park (i.e. – private property). I had to walk past a shipping container, and then between another container and a wall (you can see it on the right) to get to that spot. I was terrified that someone was inside the building and watching me – wondering what the hell I was doing! One day I’ll get over it, I’m sure. In the mean time? I’ll take my photo in a hurry, pray it is ok and run… (Forrest, run!)

More from my expedition on the weekend – and more to come! Same as always: more places added to the list than ones removed from the list… sun when I wanted shade, shade when I wanted sun – I’m sure you know the drill by now! Nothing much to say about these, really – except… why oh why do I always find toilet windows?!?! Maybe I should make a collection of them…

The other day, I sat down and wrote out a list (as you do) of photos I drive past on my way to and from work. I surprised myself – my list consisted of 32 places. THIRTY TWO PLACES! That is ridiculous – my round trip is all of 11km. I’d like to point out that my list doesn’t include any of the photos I’ve already taken (which is a substantial list in itself) or the new ones I’ve seen since then. Some of these images are from that list, others are from an area of town I’ve been meaning to visit… all in all I was out for 75mins, drove 25km and ended up with a lot of photos. I wonder how many ‘unnecessary’ kilometres my car has travelled to accommodate my photo taking habits?!

All bar one of these is at my local shopping centre. I swear I’m not there all that often, but I have so many images from that spot in the last 18 months! In fact – I’m up to 42 ‘rated’ photos this year (which means I like them – I’ve posted 22 of those on my blog) and 37 rated images from last year. No idea what my shopping centre obsession is at the moment, but I certainly haven’t taken the ‘same’ photo on different days. It’s not really a very exciting place, and I have no idea how I’ve managed to find so many interesting images! I would have thought I would have become complacent with the familiarity by now, but apparently not. To be honest, I’m pretty proud of that – it means I’ve always got my eyes open!

Too many photos. My brain hurts! That said, I’ve pretty much cleared my massive collection of images to post (just imagine all the ones I didn’t!) – and now the slate is almost clean for me to start all over again. See that photo of the parking lot with the brick wall? You have no idea how much that place drives me crazy, and how difficult I find it to photograph! Things aren’t centred, they compete for attention and I have no idea what how to compose the lovely thing (trust me on that one – I took a lot before I ended up with this one!). What the hell were they thinking?! Don’t they know there are people out there like me who like things all neat and tidy and lined up?!
